Desert Liver Retreat

We provide a superior scientific program and a fun opportunity to ne=twork with colleagues seeking an update in state-of-the-art liver disease care. Our exhibitors are chosen as excellent providers of important products and services to our community.

Target Audience

This event is intended for MDs, DOs, PAs, NPs, RNs, residents, fellows, and clinical research personnel who are involved in the care of patients with liver disease.

Educational Objectives

After attending this event the participant should be better able to:

  • Utilize most recent guidelines for screening and diagnosing patients at risk of chronic liver disease

  • Develop an evidence-based treatment regimen for chronic liver disease using latest clinical evidence

  • Communicate disease and treatment options to patients

  • Recognize and communicate risks and benefits of therapy

  • Recognize differential diagnosis for NAFLD & NASH

  • Characterize risk factors for PBC & be able to discuss different therapies for PBC

  • Identify diagnostic approaches for HCC and treatment options

  • Explain diagnostic criteria and diagnostic tools for minimal and overt HE

  • Define diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for HCC

  • Demonstrate understanding of the diagnostic approaches for PSC and the role of liver biopsy as well as what therapies are used for PSC and when

  • Demonstrate understanding of different currently available treatment options for different clinical manifestations of portal hypertension

  • Choose different interventions and treatment approaches to minimize inpatient health care utilization for patients with liver disease

  • Describe the hepatic manifestations of COVID-19 infections including acute hepatic injury and cholangitis

Accreditation Statements

In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by the Postgraduate Institute for Medicine and Arizona Liver Health, LLC. The maximum number of hours awarded for this Continuing Nursing Education activity is 7.0 contact hours. Pharmacotherapy contact hours for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses to be determined.

ABIM MOC

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 7.0 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.
