Dr. Gutierrez is Transplant Hepatologist. Presently, he is an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at Scripps Organ and Cell Transplant Program in La Jolla, Ca, the Director of the Care Pathway, and leads the Scripps MD Anderson HCC program in South San Diego. He has significant experience in creating robust clinical programs and is a specialist in the care of patients who need or have had a liver transplant. Dr. Gutierrez maintains an active hepatology practice focusing especially on underserved populations in Southern California.  

Dr. Gutierrez was trained as a physician-scientist and continues to perform research in the area of MASLD, including drug development of GLP-1/Glucagon agonists and point-of-care MRI devices for the detection of hepatic steatosis.
